Are You Being Watched

Surveillance Cameras have been used for years on the streets, in many high street stores and for added security at the more upmarket gated communities . . . it’s all very “Big Brother” . . . but these days video surveillance cameras are becoming more affordable, accessible, and therefore more popular for the average person.  People are taking advantage and adding surveillance camera security measures to their homes, their offices, their stores . . . keeping their families, employees and businesses safe. These things all take a lot of time, energy and resources, so it stands to reason that you want to protect them and keep them as safe as possible, and video surveillance cameras are a very efficient way to combat . . . and maybe just as importantly deter . . . crimes.

Different Types of Surveillance Cameras

There’s quite a choice of surveillance cameras on the market these days, so if you’ve decided that you’re gonna install them at your home or other premises, then it’s worth taking a little time to learn about the different types of surveillance camera and which will best suit your individual needs.

Dummy Surveillance Cameras – a friend of mine (well, not much of a friend ‘cos I didn’t really like him, so more of an acquaintance really), anyway, this dude, many years ago, painted a yellow cookie tin and stuck it onto the side of his house wall to deter burglars, it was back in the olden days before people had heard of surveillance cameras, it was meant to be a burglar alarm . . . to be honest, it didn’t look very convincing in the cold light of day, but to my knowledge he has never been burgled so maybe it did the trick. Dummy surveillance cameras are much more convincing (and cheaper) than the real ones, but if the deterrent doesn’t work and you do get burgled you won’t know who dunnit.

Sneaky Surveillance Cameras – the proper word for these is covert, but they are sneaky because they’re real surveillance cameras which are designed to look like other stuff – potted plant close to the front door, wall clock in the kitchen etc. These are sneaky because you can record people without them even knowing that they’re being watched . . . but I’m sure that there’s a law against putting them in some rooms of the house . . . you know who I’m talking about - Merv the Perv.

Wireless Surveillance Cameras – are real security cameras which are wireless, so you can move them around easily and install them just about anywhere. They’re very discreet and easy to install . . . sound interesting?

Wired Surveillance Cameras – the more traditional and permanent security camera type set up, although you may need a professional to install it for you.

Night Vision Surveillance Cameras – are not only for night-time, but also are great for areas which are not very well lit . . . what’s that lurking in the shadows? They record stuff in black and white so the images that they capture are pretty clear . . . worth thinking about don’t you think.

Home Surveillance Camera Systems – it’s not just the actual surveillance camera which you need to think about when you get a surveillance system for you home, you’ll also need (and should get) things like timers for lamps, motion sensors and a screen so that you can easily see what’s going on.

Other Surveillance Camera Uses

Surveillance cameras are not only used to record burglars and other intruders you know, you can also use them to keep an eye on employees whilst you’re out of the room, see what the kids are really getting up to when they go to play in another part of the house – okay, who started the fight . . . if nobody is going to own up to it we’ll just have to check out the surveillance camera recording won’t we . . . actually, that’s a bit mean really but you never know when it might come in handy, especially when the little brats from next door come around and start causing trouble.

Watch out though, you might get a glimpse of more than you bargained for . . . .

Surveillance cameras, especially the night vision cameras are also becoming pretty popular as a method of keeping an eye on the night time visitors to your garden . . . ever wonder who was pinching Tiddles’ cat food . . . well now you can find out, the skunk dunnit, or was it the fox?

I’m pretty sure that all of those surveillance camera shots weren’t all from one night, in one garden . . . but it was good anyway.
